Please telephone 01470 511258 to reserve a table for either lunch or dinner at The Three Chimneys. Our office is open every day between the hours of 8.30am and 10.00pm, all-year round. Alternatively use our Enquiry Form on the Contact Us Page to send us a message. We regret that we cannot confirm bookings by e-mail although we may deal with your initial enquiries in this way. We take pride in personally helping customers to make their final arrangements and check our e-mail frequently throughout each day. You can be sure that we will respond to your enquiry quickly.
Below are some answers to the questions we are frequently asked about dining at The Three Chimneys. Happy reading!
Confirmation. We will ask you to confirm your booking a day or two before your arrival and also, for a mobile number or contact details of where you will be staying if you are on holiday on the island. We are always very happy to assist our customers with the contact details of alternative places to stay nearby The Three Chimneys if we are fully booked at The House Over-By, or you would prefer to stay elsewhere.
Drinks Before. Customers may enjoy a pre-lunch or pre-dinner drink at their table while they peruse the Menu and select their meal. Alternatively, pre-dinner drinks may be served in The House Over-By in the relaxing, candlelit seating areas to be found indoors and outdoors on fine weather evenings. There are also seats in the garden outside the Restaurant, directly overlooking the loch. A full Lounge Service of drinks and coffee is offered to both house guests and restaurant customers in the evenings in The House Over-By, before and after dinner. The best views of sunsets over Loch Dunvegan are to be had from the panoramic windows and the pretty garden area here. Start your meal with a glass of Champagne or a dram of Isle of Skye whisky with your canapés, or join us for coffee or teas and Three Chimneys sweetmeats, while you sip a cocktail or an aged Talisker single malt.
Larger Parties. For bookings for 6 people or more, we will ask for credit card details to secure your booking and will write to you to confirm the arrangements. We do not make a service charge except for parties of 8 or more people when we will add 10% to the final bill. The maximum number of people we can seat together at 1 table is 10. We prefer not to take bookings for parties of more than this number due to restriction of space in the dining room.
No rush. The restaurant is small and intimate and has only 14 tables. We turn-over the earliest bookings after two-and-a-half hours for later diners arriving at 9.30pm in the evening. However there is no need for customers to rush to leave the restaurant as they are welcome to have more coffee or a night-cap in the comfortable Lounge area in The House Over-By. A special nip of old Talisker perhaps? We do not turn-over tables booked from 7.30pm onwards.
Booking ahead. We can get heavily booked or booked-up completely, a week or two ahead, but also receive last-minute cancellations from time-to-time. It is always worth telephoning to check availability. If you are planning to be on the Isle of Skye on a specific date, or are visiting for a special occasion, be sure to book ahead to secure a table for dinner. Last minute bookings are more available for lunchtime than they are in the evenings. Although we are remote, we can be very busy.
Opening times. We serve dinner every night of the week throughout the year, except during our annual period of closure in January. The restaurant opens at 6.30pm and closes when everyone has enjoyed their evening and gone home. Lunch service begins at 12.30pm with last orders taken at 1.45pm. We serve lunch every day except Sunday from around the end of March until the end of October. We do not open for lunch during the Winter months of November, December, January, February and part of March. We do not open for morning coffee and afternoon tea, although guests staying in The House Over-By area always offered complimentary tea and whisky fruit loaf on arrival each day.
Taxi! There is an excellent local taxi service operating out of Dunvegan and also from other towns and villages on the island such as Portree. Please ask for more information when you make your booking.
The "dress code" is casual smart. Gentlemen are not required to wear jacket and tie – particularly as so many of our customers are on holiday. However, you will be equally welcome if you choose to wear top hat and tails, full dress kilt or have to first row ashore in your oilskins and wellies!
Gift Vouchers can be purchased for any amount towards the cost of a meal, a bottle of wine, overnight accommodation, or all of these things together. They are very popular with our customers, especially when purchased as a gift for an important birthday, anniversary, or a retirement present. We can also arrange for a last-minute gift of a bottle of wine, for example, to be placed on the table for a friend or relative, with an appropriate message in a gift card. Please telephone our office for personal advice about Gift Vouchers, or to make special arrangements for someone who plans to visit us.
Children. We love well-behaved children who enjoy their food and dining with their families in the restaurant. However, parents should note that we do not offer a children’s menu. We believe that most children over the age of 8 years old will enjoy much of what we serve. We can adapt dishes and we will charge according to the number of courses and the size of portion that the child selects and enjoys eating. We would expect children over the age of 8 to enjoy a minimum of 2 courses for lunch or dinner. Parents should take into account that their child takes up a whole seat in the restaurant and we cannot give seats to children who are not going to enjoy the experience of eating in a "grown-up" restaurant with other adults. We regret that we do not allow very tiny tots and babies in the restaurant at any time, although we will use our discretion at lunchtime where larger family parties are involved. Parents should remember that many couples dining in the restaurant are there for a romantic night-out and their enjoyment possibly could be marred by sitting alongside other couples’ children who are tired and fidgety. We do try to think of everyone. We hope you understand.
Children Staying in The House Over-By. We are very happy to serve a children’s tea in the morning room for babies and little ones staying with their parents in The House Over-By. We will discuss this on a one-to-one basis, together with any other special arrangements necessary for children, such as baby-listening, when guests book their accommodation.
